What does Pharmaceutical Grade mean in regard to Essential Oils?

It means that every essential oil is tested against the parameters of existing pharmacopeia, whose standards must be achieved to determine the oil’s purity. Among those parameters evaluated are the oil’s density, refraction index, and more importantly, its chromatographic analysis – the “fingerprint” of each element. Only if these standards are met can an essential oil can be defined as pharmaceutical grade or pharmacopeia grade.

How long do Essential Oils last?

Essential oils should be used within an 18-month period. However, they may be used for a longer period of time provided their aroma and texture remain the same. Shelf life can be extended by storing essential oils in a cool, dark place.

What precautions should be taken when using Essential Oils?

Aromatherapy practiced responsibly at home is safe and effective, but the diagnosis and treatment of serious problems should be left to the experts. It is reckless and dangerous to attempt to diagnose or self-diagnose.

As a general rule:
•Do not apply directly on the skin (except for Lavender)
•In a diffuser, always dilute with water
•Use only for external application
•Usage restrictions apply for pregnant or lactating women
•Consult a specialist If homeopathy or herbal medicine is being used
•Aromatherapy or massage may be contraindicated with some conditions
•They are not for ingesting or internal use.
